Desalination systems are classified into two categories, depending on their use of renewable energy. They are direct and indirect collection systems. As their name implies, direct collection systems use renewable (solar) energy to produce concentrate directly in the solar collector, whereas in indirect collection systems, two sub-systems are employed (one for renewable energy collection and one for desalination).
